No. 24 SFU rolls to 6th win with sweeps over St. Cloud State and Hawaii Pacific

SEATTLE – No. 24 ranked Simon Fraser won a pair of games Saturday to roll to their sixth straight win, sweeping St. Cloud State and Hawaii Pacific in straight sets at the Seattle Pacific Invitational.
 
SFU won three close sets against St. Cloud 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 in the morning and came back to take three straight against Hawaii Pacific 25-23, 25-13, 29-27.
 
SFU had a slight 47-43 advantage in kills, 5-3 edge in blocks and 46-42 edge in digs against St. Cloud State.  The big difference was SFU connected at a higher attack percent .306 to 239.
 
Leading the way for SFU in attack was Camryn Vosloh with 16 kills, Brooke Dexter with 14 kills and Hanna Kolof with 10. Kolof had the decisive Set 1 kill coming out of an SFU timeout to seal the victory when SFU was holding a 24-23 advantage. The teams were tied at 16 in Set 1 when SFU pulled in front for good.
 
SFU trailed 10-5 in Set 2 before going on a 14-7 run to hold a 19-17 lead that they stretched into a victory.
 
The final set was tied 23-23 when middle blocker Farnaaz Johal and setter Julia Tays teamed up for a block. On the next point Johal had the kill for the win, finishing with 5 kills on 10 attempts.
 
Tays had a double-double with 38 assists and 13 digs.
 
In the evening match against Hawaii Pacific, SFU dominated with a.248 attack percent, 46 kills to 29, and 42 digs compared to 31 for HPU.
 
HPU actually led 14-6 in the opening set before SFU went on a 10-5 run to draw with 3, 19-16. SFU pulled event at 22 and then again at 23, before winning the final two points on a Brooke Dexter kill and an attack error by HPU.
 
Set 2 was a two-point game at 12-10 before SFU went on a 15-3 run for the win.
 
The final set went back and forth with the team tied at 27-27 when Kalissa Beltran delivered a service ace and Volosh a kill for the win. Volosh and Dexter reached double figures in kills with 10 and 14, respectively.
 
SFU held Hawaii Pacific to .080 attack percent.
