1/29/2022 4:50:00 PM

BURNABY, B.C. -- The Simon Fraser men's wrestling team won both its dual matches, including one over the three-time defending National Junior College Athletic Association national champions, Saturday in Oregon City. SFU opened the day with a 32-18 victory over Southwestern Oregon Community College. Then the team earned a 20-16 triumph over host school Clackamas Community College.

"Clackamas has won the last three junior college national championships and hasn't lost a home dual since 2014, until today. It was a big win for us," said SFU head coach Justin Abdou.

Two weeks ago, Clackamas also won its seventh NJCAA dual meet title in nine years.

Against Clackamas, junior Randy McDonald (141 pounds) and freshman Ryan Hicks (149) earned six points each for SFU with pins over their opponents, Marckis Branford and Micah Worthington.

Senior Logan Nelson won the 184-pound match via technical fall over Ramtin Yazdani to give SFU five team points.

At 285 pounds, sophomore Taniela Feliciano-Takafua outscored Kyle Richards 5-1 to record the decision win.

Riley Prough, a senior wrestling at 133 pounds, pinned Jacob Navarro to get the first victory of the day for SFU.

Then junior Brent Hodgson (157) won by fall over Jett Nelson, and freshman Magnus McCrackin (165) did the same against Juan Escobar.

SFU's other six team points came via forfeit at 149 pounds.
