Jessica Wisotzki scores career-high 34 points but Red Leafs fall in overtime

NAMPA, ID – Guard/forward Jessica Wisotzki scored a career-high 34 points but it wasn't enough to secure a win over Concordia University Irvine. The Golden Eagles hit a basket at the buzzer of regulation time to tie the game and then won it in overtime, upsetting the Red Leafs 90-86 on Saturday at the Northwest Nazarene Thanksgiving Classic.
 
Wisotzki scored 34 points on 11-of-23 shooting, going 4-of-7 on threes, playing a career-high 38 minutes. She added two rebounds and two steals. Gemma Cutler had a double-double with 14 points (6-of-11) and 10 rebounds. Cutler played 23 minutes, fouling out with just under two minutes to play in regulation.
 
Simon Fraser led by as many as seven points in the fourth quarter after taking over the game with a 29-point third quarter. The Red Leafs led by four with 95 seconds left in regulation but the Golden Eagles tied the game 78-78 with 11 seconds left and again at 80-80 on a layup.
 
SFU's Grace Killins restored the two-point lead with a pair of free throws. There was 1.8 seconds on the clock.
 
The Golden Eagles came out of a timeout and went inside, outside with the ball. Katie Timmerman took the return pass and hit a long two—as determined by the referees in video replay—as the buzzer went to send the game to overtime tied at 82-82.
 
In the extra period, CUI outscored SFU 8 to 4.

 Concordia went ahead 86-84 with 54 seconds left. Makenna Gardner hit one of two free throws to cut the lead to 86-85. CUI then hit four consecutive free throws to extend the lead to 90-85. Killins added a free throw with 11 seconds left to finalize the score, 90-86. Killins finished with 11 points.
 
Sophie Klassen also reached double figures scoring for SFU with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting in 27 minutes.
 
CUI shot 45.7 percent from the field, going 32-of-70. SFU shot 43.3 percent (29-of-67). The teams were even in most statistical categories.
 
SFU trailed 39-33 at the half.
 
Fans will get there first look at this year's team when SFU begins conference play at home on Saturday, Dec. 3 with a men's and women's basketball double header against Western Washington. The women's game starts at 5:15 pm and the men's game is at 7:30 pm.
