MONMOUTH, Ore. – The SFU Red Leafs Football team are still seeking their first win as members of the Lone Star Conference, after they fell 32-7 to the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves raced out to a 26-0 lead within the game's first two quarters, getting rushing touchdowns from three redshirt seniors – running back Omari Land, and wideouts Marquise Sampson and Tanner Wright.
SFU's lone score of the contest came in the waning minutes of the opening half. Down by that 26-0 margin, SFU QB
Justin Seiber hit receivers
Ethan Beselt,
Sam Davenport, and
Robert Meadors on three straight completions to take the Red Leafs to the WOU 43-yard line.
On the 38-yard line after a Wolves penalty kept the drive alive, Seibert put one up to Beselt down the left sideline. In one-on-one coverage, the senior wideout – all 5-9 and 185 lbs of him – outmuscled Wolves corner Dawson Muggy for the ball in the air and kept his feet under him, racing down the field for the 38-yard score.
SFU's defense did well to tighten up in the second half, only allowing one more score from the Wolves and just 170 second-half yards. However, the SFU offense was unable to find its footing. Seiber finished the day 11-of-30 for 136 yards and one TD, getting sacked five times. Beselt was SFU's standout on offense, as he snagged four balls for 71 yards and the team's lone score. Beselt now has five touchdowns catches this season.

Leading tackler's for SFU were
Ryan Barthelson with 11,
Gideone Kremler with 10 and
Kimo Hiu with eight.
Land was the primary engine of the Wolves' offense, as he churned out 97 yards on the ground to go with his touchdown. Wright was an all-purpose weapon, hauling in five catches for 76 yards and a touchdown to go along with his major on the ground.
The Red Leafs will look to close out their inaugural Lone Star Conference season on a winning note next week, as they host the West Texas A&M Mustangs (5-4, 3-4) at SFU Stadium's Terry Fox Field on Saturday, November 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm PT.
