Alaska scores at the buzzer to steal 80-78 win

FAIRBANKS – Destiny Reimers scored on a drive through the lane at the buzzer to complete the comeback and lift Alaska to an 80-78 win over SFU in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball action Tuesday inside the Patty Center.

The bucket completed the comeback win for the Nanooks, who trailed 78-72 with just under two minutes remaining. Alaska hit consecutive three-pointers on its next two possessions with 90 seconds left and one minute remaining, before hitting the game winner with one second on the clock.

After Jessica Wisotzki hit a three to give SFU a 78-72 lead with 1:58 left, SFU missed a jumper and had two turnovers on its next three possessions, enabling Alaska to steal the win.

SFU trailed 41-38 at the half but scored 22 points in the third quarter to take a 60-55 lead heading into the last period. SFU pushed the lead to 10 points with just under seven minutes to play. But SFU scored just two field goals and two free throws, all by Jessica Wisotzki, and shot 2-of-11 from the field, in the final 6 minutes and 58 seconds.

Wisotzki led all scorers with 25 points on 7-of-17 shooting, going 4-of-8 on threes and 7-of-9 at the line, and she grabbed six rebounds in 26 minutes. Jessica Jones scored 20 points on 8-of-19, connecting on 4-of-7 threes in 36 minutes.

Four players on Alaska reached double figures in scoring led by Caitlin Pusich with 20. The hero Reimers finished with 12 points.
