Jessica Jones and Jessica Wisotzki make GNAC All-Conference Second Team

3/2/2022 12:00:00 PM

BURNABY, B.C. – The two Jessicas of Simon Fraser women's basketball have been recognized by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for their outstanding work this season.

Both Jessica Jones and Jessica Wisotzki, SFU's top scorers, were named to the GNAC's All-Conference Second Team today.

Wisotzki, a guard/forward from Langley, B.C., has averaged 16.8 points a game over 22 contests so far this season. The sophomore ranks fourth in the GNAC in scoring. She is also the team's leading three-point shooter and seventh in the GNAC, converting on 35.8 per cent (44 of 123) of her attempts. Wisotzki shot 46.1 per cent from the field overall (130 of 282).

She recorded her career-high for points in a game on Nov. 26, 2021 by scoring 32 against Concordia (Calif.) at the Point Loma (Calif.) tournament.

It is the first time Wisotzki has made the GNAC All-Conference Team.

Jones, a guard from Richmond, B.C., continues to add honours as her university career approaches its conclusion. She was named the GNAC's Preseason Player of the Year in the fall. Having appeared in 15 contests so far this season, Jones is averaging 16.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals a game. The senior leads SFU in the latter three categories.

This is the third time Jones has merited recognition from the GNAC. She was an Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2019. She made the First All-Conference Team in 2020.

Both had strong conclusions to the 2021-22 regular season, and will look to continue their excellent play against Central Washington Thursday (noon) in a quarterfinal contest at the GNAC Championships. Wisotzki averaged 24 points in SFU's last two games, while Jones, who was named the league's Player of the Week on Monday, averaged 22.5.

SFU enters the post-season with record of 12-13. Its 8-8 GNAC record earned the squad the sixth seed based on the league's Points Ratings System Standings. CWU (20-7, 13-4 GNAC) is the third seed.
