BURNABY, B.C. – Redshirt freshman Denby Carswell (Burnaby, B.C.) led the SFU Red Leafs men's golf team for the second consecutive tournament, tying for 12th at the Chico State Wildcat Invitational Tuesday in Chico, California.
 
SFU tied for sixth in the team standings, with a score of 1-under-par 863. The Red Leafs opened the tournament with rounds of 293 and 290 before posting the best result of any team on Tuesday – an 8-under 280 –to move up three spots. Host school Chico State topped the field at 14-under 850.
 
Carswell shot a 2-under 214, with rounds of 69, 74 and 71 and 10 birdies at the Butte Creek Country Club, building on his performance at last week's Western Washington Invitational, at which he tied for 10th.
 
Senior Michael Crisologo (Richmond, B.C.) improved 15 spots on the individual leaderboard after a final round 3-under 69 to finish at even-par 216 overall, tied for 17th. He led the Red Leafs with a dozen birdies over the 54-hole tournament.

Kyle Mayner, a junior from Kelowna, B.C., tied for 25th at 2-over 218. He improved on every round, beginning with a 75, before signing for a 73 and then a 70. Mayner recorded a team-best 39 pars and seven birdies.
 
Justin Bjornson (Surrey, B.C.) was one of four players in 30th place at 3-over 219. The freshman also got better as the event went on, concluding with a final-round 2-under 70, after posting 78 and 71 on the opening day. He had seven birdies over the course of the tournament.
 
His older brother Bailey Bjornson (Surrey, B.C.) tied for 39th with a three-round score of 6-over 222. The junior shot 74-75 on Day 1 before ending with his best round of the Wildcat Invitational, a 1-over 73.
 
SFU will play its final tournament of the fall schedule at the Otter Invitational, hosted by California State Monterey Bay Oct. 16-17 in Seaside, California.
