BURNABY, B.C. – As her Senior Night approaches, Simon Fraser women's basketball player
Sophie Klassen has earned another accolade.
The 6-foot forward from Chilliwack, B.C., has made the 2022-23 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes and Noble College. It is the fourth year in a row Klassen has achieved this feat.
Klassen is working towards a Kinesiology degree and holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.82 on a 4.33 scale.
She is currently 13th in the GNAC with an average of 0.7 blocks per game. As a team, SFU ranks second in the league and 14th in all of NCAA Division II in blocks per game. Klassen, a graduate of Sardis Secondary School, is 31st in the conference in rebounds per contest (4.1), and is averaging 4.2 points a game.
She will play her final home games as a member of the Red Leafs this week, alongside fellow seniors
Emma Kramer (Surrey, B.C.) and
Georgia Swant (North Vancouver, B.C.). They will face Seattle Pacific Thursday at 7 p.m., before being honoured on Senior Night Saturday against Montana State Billings at 7 p.m. Both games will take place at the West Gym.

To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater on a 4.00 scale, be on the team roster for the full season and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
