Red Leafs score 36 runs in two wins at D2 Cactus Classic

TUCSON, Arizona – The SFU Red Leafs scored 36 runs to win two games Saturday, 23-13 over Minnesota Crookston and 13-5 over Franklin Pierce, at the D2 Cactus Classic at Lincoln Park. The tournament features two games Friday, two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday.
 
Game 4 – SFU 13, Franklin Pierce 5

Game 3 – SFU 23, Minnesota Crookston 13
 SFU scored 12 runs in the final two inning for a 23-13 win, the third most runs scored in SFU softball history. The game did set a school record for most runs scored by both teams.
 
SFU finished with 20 hits, recording four doubles and one triple, with seven players having multi-hit games.
 
The Red Leafs jumped all over the Golden Eagles, scoring the game's first seven runs, including five in the second inning.
 
After the Golden eagles scored five runs in the second and third innings, SFU would answer with four runs in the top of the fourth, for an 11-5 lead. MCU scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 12-11 lead.
 
From that point, the Red Leafs would score the next 12 runs, catapulting them to the 23-13 victory.
 
Here are the offensive highlights:
  • SS Amy Hughes went 3-for-5 with 4 runs, 4 RBI, 1 double, 1 triple and 3 stolen bases
  • CF Megan Duclos went 3-for-6 with 3 runs, 2 RBI and 4 stolen bases
  • LF Abby McGlynn went 3-for-6 with 2 runs, 2 RBI and 2 doubles
  • 1B Caitlin Zagari went 2-for-4 with 3 runs, 1 RBI and 1 double
  • RF Janique Balcaen went 3-for-4 with 2 runs, 3 RBI
 
Game 2 - SFU 6, Georgian Court 11
Georgian Court collected 14 hits and took advantage of six Simon Fraser errors to win 11-6, scoring at least one run in all seven innings.
 
The Red Leafs tied the game 3-3 when Kristen Davyduke blasted a three-run home run in the home half of the first. After GCU regained the lead, Davyduke drove in two more runs in the third with a single cutting the lead down to 7-5.
 
The two teams traded runs in the fourth and SFU trailed 8-6. GCU tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings
 
Simon Fraser just had one hit in the final three innings after getting eight hits over the first four innings.
 
Game 1 - SFU 3, Mercyhurst 4
 SFU took an early lead, scoring in the first inning to make it 1-0. Mercyhurst answered in the third inning with two runs for a 2-1 lead.
 
SFU scored in the third and eighth, for a 3-2 lead but the Lakers scored twice in the bottom of the eighth for the win.
 
SFU scored three runs on seven hits with Kristen Davyduke and Amy Hughes each getting two hits.
