BURNABY, B.C. – Junior
Michael Crisologo (Richmond, B.C.) placed eighth and senior
Jordan Bean (Canmore, Alta.) tied for ninth to lead Simon Fraser at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout men's golf tournament in Alameda, California.
The California State East Bay-hosted event was supposed to go 54 holes at the par-72 Corica Golf Complex. The teams got 36 holes in on Monday but Tuesday's final round was cancelled because of extremely high winds.
SFU entered the day in second place in the standings but did not get a chance to make a run for the team title on Tuesday. The Red Leafs finished at 7-under-569, three shots behind winner California State San Marcos.
Crisologo was the highest-finishing SFU golfer for the second consecutive tournament, placing eighth in Alameda at 4-under 140. He shot rounds of 71 and 69, and recorded seven birdies and 26 pars overall. It is Crisologo's first top-10 individual result since the 2019-20 season.

With rounds of 69 and 72 on Monday, Bean tied for ninth with a final score of 3-under 141. He tied for the tournament lead with 13 birdies, with seven coming in his final round. Bean's ninth-place tie equaled his career-best individual placing, which previously took place in March 2020 at the Notre Dame de Namur (California) Invitational.
Aidan Goodfellow (Parksville, B.C.) tied for 17th to give the Red Leafs three athletes in the top 20. The senior opened with a 74 before concluding with a 69 for a total of 1-under 143. He had an eagle and five birdies over the course of the tournament.
A hole-in-one highlighted the Tim Tierney Pioneer Classic for sophomore
Ryan Hodgins (Medicine Hat, Alta.). On his second hole of the tournament, his tee shot on No. 7 found the bottom of the cup for an eagle. It is the first ace for SFU men's golf in recent memory.
Hodgins signed for a 70 in the round before concluding the event with a 77. He tied for 45th at 3-over 147. In addition to his hole-in-one eagle, Hodgins also had a half-dozen birdies.
Sophomore
Bailey Bjornson (Surrey, B.C.) tied for 62nd with a score of 7-over 151. He had four birdies and rounds of 76 and 75.
The Red Leafs will head back to California for their next tournament, the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, March 27-28 in Turlock.
