BURNABY, B.C. – Junior
Megan Duclos (Saint-Eustache, Que.) stole her 22nd base in Simon Fraser's non-conference game at Western Washington Saturday to establish a new single-season school record for stolen bases. She came into the day tied with 2008 Olympian Erin McLean (2006) and reigning Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year
Alex Ogg (2022) as Red Leafs with 21 stolen bases in one campaign.
SFU (5-11) lost 10-2 in six innings Saturday, and will now travel to Lacey, Washington, for a Sunday doubleheader at Saint Martin's, starting at 12 noon.
Duclos helped open the scoring in the top of the third inning in Bellingham. She reached on an error, as
Breanne Beardsall (Barrie, Ont.) came home on the same play to make it 1-0 for the Red Leafs. Duclos then stole second to set the school record.
The Vikings took the lead in the home half of the third with five runs, with the first coming on a Hailey Rath RBI fielder's choice. After an infield hit, WWU scored on a Brooke Fesenbek RBI single and an Amaya Davis 2-RBI double. The Vikings made it 5-1 with a Rachel Christensen sacrifice fly. They added another sac fly in the fourth.
In the fifth, sophomore
Abby McGlynn (Langley, B.C.) got a two-out hit and stole second base to get into scoring position. Then sophomore
Caitlin Zagari (Winnipeg) drove a full-count pitch to right center field for an RBI single that plated McGlynn.
