Aidan Goodfellow, SFU booked its ticket to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship after the Red Leafs tied for fourth at the West/South Central Regional by the slimmest of margins in the team standings Saturday at the par 72, 6,851 yards Foxtail Golf Club.

Jordan Bean sank birdie putts on the 422-yard, par 4 18th hole to deliver a tie for fourth place by one stroke over Colorado Christian.
The top five squads clinched a berth at the national championship tournament. The 40
th ranked Red Leafs and No. 9 ranked Oklahoma Christian edged No. 19 ranked Colorado Christian by one shot, 871 to 872. SFU shot rounds of 289-293-289 and finished four strokes back of host, No. 11 ranked Sonoma State, and No. 13 ranked rival Western Washington, tied for first at 867. Sonoma State and Western Washington entered a playoff to determine the winner. After two playoff holes were tied, Sonoma State was declared the winner when the tournament was called because of darkness. Chico State was third with a score of 869.
SFU was fourth after round two and held that position among the 20 competing schools to clinch a championship berth May 22-26 in Warren, Ohio at the Avalon Lakes Country Club. It's the third time the SFU men's golf program has qualified for nationals. The last time came in 2015 when the team finished fifth.
Goodfellow made a run at medalist honours. He was second after a 4-under 68 in Friday's second round, thanks in part to six birdies, moving a dozen spots up the individual leaderboard into a tie for second place. In Saturday's final round, Goodfellow shot 1-under 71 to finish third at 5-under-par 211 (72-68-71). He finished seven shots back of Sonoma State's Griffin Pace, who won the tournament after three rounds of 68 for a 204 total. Jordan Lee of Western Washington was second at 207 (71-69-67).
As a team, SFU recorded 53 birdies, second most over the three days, and Goodfellow had the second most birdies individually, with 16.
