SFU Men's golf shot a three-round score of 3-over par 867 (291-288-288) to finish tied for 7
th place of 15 teams at the 49th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at the par-72 Turlock Golf & Country Club in Turlock, Calif. Cal State Monterey Bay won the invitational with an 18-under par 846 followed by Chico State with a 16-under par 848.
Denby Carswell led the way for the Red Leafs with his six-under par 210 (75-69-66) to finish in seventh place individually. Chico State's Tyler Ashman and Cal State Monterey Bay's Simon Bjorken tied for first place each with an 11-under par 205. Ashman won a one-hole play-off hole for medalist honors.
Denby Carswell attributed his success to a positive mindset going into the tournament. "I knew the golf course was suited for my style of play, so I focused on staying patient and playing aggressively towards smart targets," he commented. Denby's final round of 66 propelled him up the individual leaderboard by 15 places to secure 7
th place. Starting off strong with a 6-foot birdie putt on his first hole, Carswell maintained his momentum throughout the day, highlighted by a remarkable 50-foot putt to save par on the par-4 12th hole. He concluded the day with one bogey and an impressive tally of 7 birdies. Meanwhile, SFU's
Michael Crisologo demonstrated consistent play, securing a top 20 finish with rounds of 69-74-73-216.
SFU Men's golf hits the road again this weekend to the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational, an NCAA Division I event scheduled for April 1-2 in University Place, Washington. The tournament will take place at Chambers Bay, the host site of the 2015 U.S. Open. This tournament serves as SFU's last regular-season event before they move on to the GNAC Championship.
