Box Score 4 SFU Softball visited Bellingham, Washington to challenge the nationally ranked Western Washington University Vikings, for some non-conference counting action on March 2nd and 3rd, 2024.
Â
While the weather cooperated long enough for SFU to upset the nation's #16 team in game 1, the flurries arrived and all parties agreed not to go forward with game 2. The 7-4 victory came on the back of yet another stellar performance in the circle by freshman pitcher,
Monica Bourque. The Red Leafs were able to pick up some timely hits and hand the Vikings their second loss of the season in extra innings. Bourque would be credited with the complete game gem.
Â
On day 2, the Vikings displayed exactly why they deserve their ranking as they bounced back to take both games, but SFU proved all weekend that they can slug with the best.
Â
Keno Magano, third year Assistant Coach, had this to say about the weekend. "It was definitely huge to get that first one because it confirmed our belief that we can compete with anyone. We are a talented young group that is very capable of winning games as long as we just remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other, instead of rushing to the finish line."Â
Â
The Red Leafs will travel to Nampa, Idaho to open up conference play against defending GNAC champions, Northwest Nazarene University, on March 8th and 9th, 2024.
