BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser University has teamed up with the Langley Events Centre to host the 2024 CCA DII Canadian Tip-Off Classic. This NCAA Division II basketball tournament will feature men's and women's teams from across North America.
This tournament marks the second year of a three-year agreement to bring NCAA Division II teams to Metro Vancouver. Each team will play three games over three days, from November 1 to November 3.
The tournament will include 12 teams (six women's and six men's teams), representing five conferences and six states.
On the women's side, the Classic welcomes two 2024 Division II Elite 8 teams, the University of Tampa Spartans and Gannon University Golden Knights. "We're excited for our 2nd Tip Off Classic. We're bringing in top-tier teams who will compete at Nationals this year," said SFU women's basketball head coach
Bruce Langford. "St. Edwards from a very competitive Texas league, along with Dominican a perennial power in The PACWEST will be joined by Seattle Pacific from the GNAC and then from across the country comes Gannon and Tampa who both made it to the Elite Eight last year. We are excited to host. These games will be competitive and will demonstrate the strength of Division II NCAA basketball."
On the men's side, the University of Hawai'i-Hilo returns, after going undefeated in the 2023 CCA DII Tip-Off Classic. Cal State University San Bernardino Coyotes, will be making the trip north, after an impressive run at the 2024 Division II Final Four, where they were national semi-finalists. "The men's side of the CCA DII Canadian Tip-Off will be a dog fight," noted SFU men's basketball head coach
Steve Hanson. "There are so many quality programs that fans in B.C. get to see early in the season. No doubt, some of these programs will have a chance for a run come March Madness and it is great to see this level of competition so early in the season."
Cal State University San Bernardino (27-8) who were 2023-24 West Region Champions and appeared in the Final Four, join Dallas Baptist University (25-6) of the Lone Star Conference and the University of Hawai'i Hilo (19-12) of the PacWest. These three teams will take on three tough GNAC opponents in Saint Martin's (21-8), Western Oregon and SFU.
Tickets are available at
Langley Events Centre's website, and all games will be live-streamed on
