Calgary’s Hoops and Roots
Haley's story begins in Ancaster, Ontario, where she was born and spent her earliest years. At the age of 5, her family moved to Calgary, a change that marked the beginning of her lifelong journey with basketball. Her father, a former university player, placed a basketball in her hands at the tender age of 3, igniting a passion that would shape her future. By grade 2, Haley was playing on a team, balancing her time between basketball and competitive soccer.
A Pivotal Decision
As Haley entered her teenage years, she faced a choice between her two passions: soccer and basketball. At 14, she chose basketball, a decision that wasn't without its doubts. The COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges, making her question if she had chosen the right path. But her love for the game combined with a drive to succeed, reaffirmed that basketball was her true calling.
The Road to SFU
Haley's recruitment to SFU was a smooth process. During a tournament before grade 11, she caught the eye of Coach Langford. With several conversations and Zoom calls, an offer was extended. The chance to play NCAA basketball in Canada, close to family in British Columbia, made SFU an ideal choice. Her affection for BC and its familiar environment sealed the deal.
Reflecting on Milestones
In high school, Haley earned numerous accolades, including multiple tournament MVPs and Athlete of the Year honors. Her team consistently excelled, winning city championships and placing 3rd in the province. At SFU, being part of Coach Langford's 500th career win was a memorable highlight, marking a significant milestone in her basketball journey.
Transitioning to College Life
Moving from high school to college was a major transition for Haley. In high school, she was a standout, a star player who rarely worried about her position. The shift to SFU brought new trials, including the decision to redshirt her first year. This was a mental adjustment, but one that ultimately provided her with valuable growth. Academically, she learned the importance of time management, adapting to the independence college life demanded.

Haley is majoring in Business, with plans to concentrate in Finance. Her dream is to become a lawyer, but she's open to other paths, such as investment banking or working in insurance. Her summer job as a financial analyst offered a glimpse into the business world, expanding her career interests.
