Biography

How the Passion Ignites
In the heart of Langley, British Columbia, Sophia found her love for basketball amidst family traditions and Friday night games. Inspired by her sister and supported by her parents, she embraced the sport wholeheartedly. Though soccer tempted her in grade 8, the thrill of basketball and the joy of playing alongside her sister ultimately won her over.

High School Achievements
At Walnut Grove Secondary, Sophia's talent quickly shone through. Her defensive prowess earned her the Most Outstanding Defensive Player award twice at the BC Provincial Championships. Known for her versatility, she became a key player, leading her team to impressive finishes in provincial tournaments. Walnut Grove placed 4th at the 2020 provincial championships and Sophia was a second team all-star. At the 2019 BC Provincial 3A Championships, Sophia was a second team all-star and Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Her stats told a story of growth, considering she had gone from averaging 16.6 ppg, 5.5 assists to averaging 20.1 points and 7.1 assists in just a year. In high school, each game built her reputation as a formidable player.

The SFU Decision
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Sophia faced a pivotal decision when choosing colleges but she opted for SFU, drawn by the opportunity to reunite with her sister on the court and stay close to home. Her familiarity with Coach Langford eased her transition, and the familiar environment offered comfort amidst the challenges of college life.

Transforming Her Game
Sophia's evolution from a defensive specialist to a dual-threat player is a testament to her hard work. She stepped onto the university court with intensity and speed, but her confidence grew over time. By embracing both offensive and defensive roles, she became a cornerstone of the team, proving her ability to excel.

Family Support
Through every victory and setback, Sophia's family remained her greatest supporters. Her parents, both physiotherapists, offered guidance. Living with her sister during her initial years at SFU provided a source of constant motivation. This support system fueled her resilience.

Balancing Academics and Athletics
Pursuing a degree in kinesiology, Sophia is driven by her goal of becoming a physiotherapist. Her academic journey is marked by a desire to excel, motivated by a friendly rivalry with her sister. This competitive spirit helps her balance the demands of being a student-athlete, pushing her to achieve her best in both arenas.

Goals and Aspirations
Sophia's sights are set on making the GNAC all-star team again and helping her team advance in the playoffs. She aspires to be both an offensive and defensive leader, showcasing her skills on the court. Her dedication to training highlights her commitment to being the best version of herself.

Inspiring Others
Sophia hopes her teammates, coaches, and fans see her as a leader who is willing to ‘leave everything on the court’.
