Biography
A New Beginning in Langley
Born in Haiti and adopted at the age of five and a half, Myrlaine found her new home in Langley, British Columbia. Growing up in a vibrant household with her brothers, she was immersed in sports from a young age. It was through the Steve Nash basketball program that her love for the game truly blossomed, setting the stage for her future.

High School to College Transition
Attending Langley Christian, Myrlaine shone brightly in her high school team. As a Grade 10 star in 2020, she was named to the championship tournament's Second All-Star Team. Shelvey averaged 16.5 points a game over four contests, as LCS placed second in the province. Lainey led Langley Christian to the 2022 BC high school Double-A provincial championship after beating Mulgrave 70-60 in the final, scoring 15 points and getting 17 rebounds in the game. Myrlaine further honed her skills with VK Basketball, a club that traveled extensively across the United States. These experiences exposed her to fierce competition, preparing her for the leap to college basketball. Transitioning to SFU was a challenge, with its daily, intense practices, but her passion for the game pushed her forward.

Balancing Education and Athletics
Pursuing a major in Education, Myrlaine envisions a future as a teacher. Balancing her academic goals with her athletic commitments requires discipline, but she embraces this challenge, dedicating her weekends to staying ahead in her studies.

Known for her aggressive play and speed, Myrlaine is a force to be reckoned with on the court. Over the years at SFU, she has grown more confident in her abilities, embracing her role as a competitive and reliable teammate.

Family Support and Personal Growth
Her family has been a cornerstone of her journey. Her father and brother are often by her side, helping her refine her shooting skills during early morning practices. Their unwavering support, along with her parents' presence at games, has been implemental in her success.

Aspirations and Team Goals
Myrlaine aims to help her team reach the GNAC tournament once more. Personally, she is focused on becoming more vocal and enhancing her communication skills on and off the court. She hopes her teammates see her as a dedicated player, while her coaches recognize her eagerness to learn and grow.

Overcoming Challenges
Like many athletes, Myrlaine has faced moments of doubt. However, the strong bond with her teammates and the occasional breaks help her stay motivated. The mentorship and friendship with Makenna, a fellow Langley Christian alumna, have been particularly impactful, offering guidance and support throughout her journey.

Myrlaine hopes to inspire her teammates and fans with her loyalty to SFU, leaving a lasting impact at SFU as both a player and a person.
