Discovering the Game
Sophie grew up in the scenic region of Saguenay, Quebec, a couple of hours from Quebec City. Her basketball journey began at the age of 12, when her physical education teacher recognized her potential and encouraged her to join a Basketball tryout. What started as a simple suggestion turned into a passion.
 
A Journey Through Quebec
Sophie attended Polyvalente d'Arvida, a French school where she balanced academics with her growing love for basketball. Her commitment was evident as she spent countless hours practicing, eventually leading her to Cégep de Sainte-Foy in Quebec City. There, she played for three years, earning recognition as a defensive powerhouse with a defensive MVP and making it to the RSEQ All-Star team multiple times.
 
The Recruitment Process
With seven university offers on the table, she was torn between staying close to her family or venturing further away. Ultimately, the opportunity at SFU captured her vision of play on an NCAA team. Despite the challenge of moving far from home and tackling her studies in English, she embraced the chance to grow socially.
 
Family Influence and Support
Sophie's journey has been profoundly influenced by her family. Initially hesitant about her commitment to basketball, her mother quickly became one of her biggest supporters, never missing a game. Her grandmother, too, remains a constant source of encouragement, cheering her on from afar.
 
Life at SFU
Now at SFU, Sophie is majoring in Psychology while exploring interests in Health Sciences and Business. She thrives on the discipline required to balance her academic pursuits with the demands of college basketball. Her teammates describe her as energetic—a player who never gives up and always supports others.
 
On the Court: A Dynamic Player
Sophie's style of play is marked by her high energy and deliberate thinking. She takes pride in being a reliable teammate, known for her defensive skills and ability to read a situation on the court.
 
Looking Ahead
As Sophie continues her journey at SFU, her goals are clear. She aims to contribute positively to her team, embrace her evolving role, and leave a lasting impact both on and off the court. Her experiences have taught her to cherish every moment and to approach each game with confidence.

The connections Sophie has built at SFU have reinforced her decision to take this bold step. Living with teammates and sharing experiences has created a sense of belonging, making SFU feel like a second home.
