Nina Kovacevic captained her high school team and was a key member of U19 Team BC at the Canada Games, where Schmidt was an assistant coach, and Team BC won bronze.
 
"Nina has grown up around high-performance sport and has demonstrated an incredibly steep growth trajectory as a volleyball player after switching over from tennis," said Schmidt. "At 6'4", Nina brings a strong physical presence to the net and plays with a competitive fire. Not only is Nina a great player and person but she is also an excellent student as well."
 
"I chose SFU because I loved the atmosphere when I visited," said Kovacevic. "The team was very welcoming, and I felt that everyone was very supportive and kind. I liked that SFU was relatively close to home and had an ideal program for me. I am interested in both environmental science and business, so the Beedie School of Business suited my interests well."
