Kris Robertson

Kris Robertson is a former professional athlete who  brings extensive experience training elite professional and amateur athletes to his role as head coach, strength and conditioning for SFU Athletics. Robertson was appointed to the position on June 8, 2021.

Robertson oversees the training and development of SFU high performance athletes across all 17 NCAA varsity sports programs. Robertson is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA) and ISAK Level 1 certified coach. He is currently completing a Masters of Exercise Science at Edith Cowan University. He specializes in speed development, load management in high performance athletes, Periodization, Planning, & Programming, and long-term athlete development.

Robertson previously worked at Rugby Canada where he was responsible for the physical development of the Senior Women’s National 15’s, as well as the Women’s Rugby Canada Development Academies in Ontario (Toronto, Guelph, Ottawa) where he managed the physical and mental development of elite athletes.

Drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 11th overall in the 2013 CFL Draft after an award-winning time as a student-athlete at Concordia University (U Sport), a knee injury cut short Robertson’s professional football career. Robertson returned to Concordia, completed his degree and transitioned into sports science.

Robertson worked previously as assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, where he was responsible for sport science related initiatives, rehabbing injured athletes and managing the off-season training program for the 2017 Grey Cup Champion Argos.

Through his own company, KRT Athletic Development, Robertson has worked with professional athletes in the NFL, CFL, women’s hockey, and basketball and high-performance athletes across different age groups from a broad spectrum of sports such as soccer, football, hockey, basketball, swimming, judo, and mixed martial arts.

A native of Pickering, ON, Robertson graduated from Concordia with a Bachelor of Arts. He won the Marvin Cooper Award for perseverance, the Michael Di Grappa Award of Distinction for making an impact on the university, and he was a three-time All-Canadian. Twice at Concordia, Robertson was named Fittest Male Athlete of the Year.
