2025-26 Basketball - W Roster
Biography
From Dance to the Court
In Abbotsford, British Columbia, where Bree was raised, basketball was more than a pastime—it was a family tradition. Her father and uncles played and coached, weaving the sport into the fabric of her upbringing. Though she started as a dancer and gymnast, a pivotal moment in grade 7—when her dance studio burned down—led her to embrace basketball fully. Encouraged by her family's legacy, she found a new passion on the court.
Finding Her Path at MEI
Attending MEI, a Christian school in Abbotsford, Bree quickly stood out. Initially playing basketball casually, by grade 8, she began taking the sport seriously. Her grandfather's support played a central role; he spent countless hours rebounding for her in their backyard. This dedication fueled her growth, and by grade 10, she was training intensely, driven by an innate competitive spirit.
The Road to SFU
In grade 11, Bree's aspirations shifted towards SFU, influenced by her step-aunt, who attended SFU. Despite offers from other schools, SFU's unique NCAA opportunity and proximity to home made it her top choice. Determined, Bree reached out to Coach Langford, expressing her willingness to join the team. Her commitment and work ethic eventually secured her a spot on the roster.
Style of Play
On the court, Bree is known for her tenacity and fearless approach. As a shooting guard/small forward, she thrives on defense, willing to dive for loose balls and embrace the physicality of the game. While she admits she is in the process of improving her basketball IQ, she compensates with relentless effort and a focus on defensive contributions.
Family: The Backbone of Success
Bree's family has been her support system. Her grandparents and parents consistently attended her games and provided transportation to practices, even when it meant long drives to Surrey and Vancouver. Their commitment has been influential in her journey, and their presence at SFU games continues to inspire her.
Adapting to College Basketball
The transition from high school star to college player has been challenging. At SFU, Bree embraced her role as a redshirt, adapting to the faster pace and heightened expectations of college basketball. Understanding her new role required patience, a quality she has in abundance.
Ambitions and Impact
This year, Bree aims to be a defensive asset, someone Coach Langford can rely on to neutralize key opponents. She hopes her hard work translates into making every minute count, contributing to the team's success. Her goal is to be known as a player who can be counted on, particularly in defensive moments.
Looking Ahead: Academic and Career Goals
Bree is pursuing a Business major, driven by a desire to explore entrepreneurship or join her family's successful business. She dreams of playing professionally overseas while earning an MBA, combining her love for basketball with academic pursuits.
