Biography

Growing Up in a Basketball Family
With both parents and an older sister deeply involved in basketball, it was only natural for Rachel to follow in their footsteps. Watching her sister play from the bleachers, she quickly developed her own passion for the game.
 
Early Beginnings in Prince George
Born and raised in the close-knit community of Prince George, Rachel found her place as a point guard. Despite the town's small basketball scene, she thrived on self-motivation, often traveling to Vancouver for club basketball to gain experience and exposure.
 
High School Success
Rachel's high school team dominated locally, winning the city championship for the first time. Her individual accolades, such as being named zone MVP, were reflections of her hard work. However, it was the team achievements that truly mattered to her.
 
Path to SFU
Her recruitment journey involved playing for Team BC and club basketball in Vancouver, where she caught the attention of SFU's coach, Langford. The basketball community in BC, known for its united nature, provided Rachel with opportunities to showcase her talent and secure her spot at SFU.
 
Choosing SFU
Rachel was drawn to SFU's strong academic and athletic programs, valuing the opportunity to stay close to her family while pursuing her education. The welcoming environment, mentorship program, and challenging basketball competition were key factors in her decision to stay.
 
Family Support
Her family's solid support has been a cornerstone of Rachel's journey. Her parents frequently attend games and offer guidance, while her dad's own university basketball experience offers invaluable advice.
 
Playing Style and Development
On the court, Rachel is known for her quickness, aggression, and ability to jump out of the gym. Transitioning from high school to university basketball required adapting to a faster pace and stronger opponents, a challenge she has embraced.
 
Rachel’s goals
Rachel aspires to become a leader on her team, contributing to their continued success in the league and playoffs. She aims to grow both on and off the court, using her competitive nature to drive her team's achievements.
 
Academic Pursuits
Currently exploring her academic interests, Rachel is considering a major in Psychology with a minor in Business. She values the opportunity to learn and grow, taking diverse courses to refine her career path.
