Olympia, WA – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team finished up the Red Lion Invitational on
Saturday morning with a three sets to none loss to Columbia Bible College.
"It was a tough loss," said head coach Lisa Sulatycki. "We had some opportunities in the first two sets, in the third set we hadn't recovered from the close losses in the first two. It was a tough game to lose but it's a positive that we are in these close games with so much youth on our team."
Amanda Renkema (Delta, BC) led the way for SFU with 11.5 points in the game with 10 kills. Victoria Senges (Surrey, BC) had 29 assists in the match.
Sadie Ball had 13.5 points for Columbia Bible and tied for the team lead in kills with April Van Wieren with 11.
The first set was a battle, as Columbia Bible College jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Clan stormed back, taking a 14-13 lead and holding the one point advantage until CBC took the lead back at 20-19.
They protected that lead, eventually winning the set 25-23.
The second set was closely contested once again. The score was tied 14 times in the set but with the score 23-23, CBC scored the final two points they needed to take the set 25-23.
In the third set, the score was close once again early on, but midway through the set, CBC built a seven point lead to make the score 14-7.
From there, Columbia held on to win the set 25-19, and the game three sets to none.
The SFU volleyball team will head home with a 2-2 record to face the University of Fraser Valley in their home opener in the West Gym on
Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
