Box Score Bellingham, WA - The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team held their own through 95-minutes of play on Thursday, forcing No. 22 Western Washington to overtime.
The Clan put on a solid defensive performance against the Great Northwest Athletic Conference leaders, but fell 1-0 in the first overtime period.
SFU's goalkeeper
Priya Sandhu (Surrey, BC) made a highlight seven saves on the Vikings while the Clan turned away 28 of the home team's 29 shots on the night.
The Clan's strong defensive performance came as a combined effort from the team's back line and additional support from the other positions as SFU nearly shut-out their very highly ranked opponents.
With the game on the line in the final moments of the second half, Sandhu stepped up to turn away what could have been a game-ending goal from Catherine Miles.
The Vikings were unfortunately able to end the game thirteen minutes later as Delanee Nilles put a low shot inside the left post and just out of reach of Sandhu.
The Clan are only the third team this season to force the undefeated Vikings to an overtime period.
With the loss, SFU falls to 3-2 in the GNAC and 2-7 overall.
The Clan will look to bounce back this Saturday as they face the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders.
Kick-off in Nampa, ID is at 12:00 p.m.
