BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings women's soccer team continued its stellar defence with its fourth-straight shutout in a 3-0 victory over Simon Fraser University Clan on Thursday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Chelsea Shuman scored twice and Jessica Sprang added another for the 3-0 victory.
The loss drops the Clan to 2-15-0 overall and 2-11-0 in the GNAC. The 'Jackets improved to 10-3-2 and the team remained in second place in the GNAC standings with a mark of 8-3-2 in conference play.
MSUB wasted no time establishing command, as midfielder Jennifer Johnson played a long ball to Shuman who found herself with one Clan defender to beat. The senior took her time with a touch into the box, and beat Clan keeper
Priya Sandhu (Surrey, BC) with a low shot into the right half of the goal.
Freshman Sprang scored just four minutes before halftime, taking advantage of a missed clearance, and finishing a close-range shot. That gave MSUB a 2-0 lead at the half.
Shuman netted her second of the game on a shot from the left side of the box inside the near post in the 52nd minute.
Simon Fraser was held to just five shots. The Clan took their first shot on goal with less than 20 minutes remaining, forcing the MSUB keeper to make her first save of the match.
Simon Fraser finishes its regular season schedule with a home match against Western Washington on Saturday at 5:00 pm on Terry Fox Field. Both of SFU's wins have come at home this season.
