Clan Falls to No 24 Seawolves

SFU secures first winning season since 2010 with one game remaining in 2014

Anchorage, AK – The Simon Fraser University volleyball team fell 3-1 to Alaska Anchorage Thursday night in their penultimate game of the 2014 season.

The Clan, who this season have secured their first winning season since joining the NCAA and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2010, will finish no worse than fifth in the conference.

The Seawolves, who rank second in the West Region and 24th in the nation, took sets one, two and four to earn the 3-1 win with sets of 25-13, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-17.

Simon Fraser hitter Kelsey Robinson (Surrey, BC) had 12 kills and five digs on the night, while Madeline Hait (Burnaby, BC) added 10 kills and three blocks.

The senior middle ranks thirteenth in the NCAA Division II in blocks per set with one game remaining in the season.

Seawolf Katelynn Zanders led all athletes on the night, recording a game-high 17 kills.

The Clan took a slow start, but quickly bounced back in the second set playing tightly with the hosts for the majority of the set.

Anchorage pulled away to win set two, but Simon Fraser redeemed themselves winning a tightly-fought third set and denying the sweep.

Brooklynn Gould-Bradbury (Lake Tapps, WA) had 23 assists while Alison McKay (Port Moody, BC) had 18 digs for the Clan.

With the loss the Clan fall to 10-7 in the GNAC and 16-9 overall, but the team will have the chance to end the season with a win as they travel to Alaska Fairbanks this Saturday.

The final game of the season will begin at 7:00 p.m. AKDT and will feature the final appearances by Simon Fraser's four seniors; Robinson, Hait, Gould-Bradbury, and Amanda Renkema (Ladner, BC).
