Anchorage, AK – The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team fell 86-66 to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference leaders from Alaska Anchorage Saturday night.
The Seawolves, who are ranked third in the nation among Division II teams outshot the Clan 42.4 to 30.3 percent in the second half, sparking their expansive victory.
SFU's
Erin Chambers (Mission, BC), Division II's leading scorer, had 18 points in the contest while
Meg Wilson (London, ON) and
Elisa Homer (North Vancouver, BC) added 11 points apiece. Seawolf Keke Wright scored a career-high 26 points for the home side.
"We gave up too many boards tonight," said head coach
Bruce Langford as SFU was out-rebounded 55-33 on the night. "This resulted in a great amount of second chances for Alaska, and they were able to wear us out in the second half."
Chambers scored the first basket of the game to put the Clan up 3-0, but the hosts bounced back quickly, taking an early 34-19 lead in the first thirteen minutes.
Despite their best efforts at a comeback, the Clan was held to only 26 points in the second half.
"We had some girls sick today who we hope can recover quickly," Langford continued. "Looking ahead to out two games next week we really need to focus on boxing out and taking care of the boards."
With the loss the Clan fall to 6-3 in GNAC play and 10-7 overall, while the Seawolves improve to 10-1 in conference play.
Simon Fraser will look to bounce-back on the road as they travel to Seattle and Montana for games against Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings.
Tip-off against the Falcons will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 29, and fans can follow the action live at
