Barkeley Scores 28 But Clan Falls To Seawolves

Max Barkeley scored a game-high 28 points but it wasn’t enough as Simon Fraser University lost 76-59 to Sonoma State.

ROHNERT PARK – Max Barkeley scored a game-high 28 points but it wasn't enough as Simon Fraser University lost 76-59 to Sonoma State in men's basketball action on Monday afternoon at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.
 
It was the fourth straight win for the Seawolves, who improved to 5-1 this season. 
 
The Clan fell to 1-5. Simon Fraser opens conference play at home on December 3 against Seattle Pacific (5:15 PM tip-off) followed by the West Gym Whiteout on Saturday, Dec. 5 against Saint Martin's University beginning at 2:30 PM.

Fans are encouraged to wear white to the conference games on Saturday. The first 1,000 fans to the West Gym Whiteout will receive a free SFU Athletics 50th anniversary commemorative t-shirt. In addition, there will be a chance to win dozens of amazing prizes, including a $500 travel voucher from Merit Travel, and two $500 SFU Bookstore gift cards.
 
The West Gym Whiteout Saturday begins with a women's contest at noon.
 
Sonoma led from start to finish taking a 13-point lead into the halftime break, 27-14.  The hosts extended their lead to as many as 20 points after scoring the first seven of the second half to lead 34-14 with under 18 minutes to play.  The Clan slowly but surely fought their way back into the contest, pulling to within 11 points on three occasions, the last after a 3-pointer by Max Barkeley with 5:52 left in the game, but the Seawolves went on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to seal the win.
 
Simon Fraser was led by the 28 points from Barkeley, who drained six of his seven 3-pointers after halftime. He was seven of 14 from the field and added five rebounds and two steals.
 
Barkeley has led the Clan in scoring in three of the six games played this season.
 
Senior swingman Michael Harper had seven points and six rebounds.
 
The Seawolves led in nearly every statistical category on Monday, including rebounds (46-32), field goal percentage (45.9-32.0), points in the paint (38-10) and second-chance points (20-5). 
 
James Davis went for 22 points, including four 3-pointers and Jimmy Golden chipped in with 11 for the Seawolves
