BURNABY, BC—Simon Fraser University was held to a season-low 50 points as Central Washington University snapped a three-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference losing streak by defeating the Clan 64-50 Thursday evening in the West Gym.
Both teams are now 2-3 in the GNAC, although the Wildcats improved to 9-4 overall and the Clan fell to 4-6.
Simon Fraser made just six field goals in the second half after trailing Central Washington 39-30 at the break. The Wildcat's defense held the Clan to 32-percent shooting, including 27-percent in the pivotal second half. The Wildcats forced SFU into 18 turnovers and converted the miscues into 13 points on the offensive end.
The Clan battled back from 10 and eight point deficits in the second half. SFU pulled to within one point in the third quarter but the Wildcats surged back in front and held a 48-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
SFU cut the lead to two, 48-46, with 7:35 to go, but the Wildcats went on a 16-4 run to close out the contest.
Simon Fraser was led by
Elisa Homer who scored 15 points, but was just 3 of 10 from long range. Forward
Rachel Fradgley had eight points, while
Ellen Kett,
Alisha Roberts and
Vanessa Gee had seven points apiece.
The CWU reserves outscored the Clan bench 20-11.
The Wildcats were paced by the play of both Jasmin Edwards and Jasmine Parker. Parker scored a game-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds to record her third double double of the season. Edwards added 13 points and six assists.
Simon Fraser was 16-of-50 (32%) from the field and made 5-of-18 shots from 3-point range (27.8%).
Central Washington shot 45.1-percent from the field and made four of its six attempts from long range.
The Clan will be back in action Saturday when they host Northwest Nazarene in the West Gym beginning at 7PM.
