BURNABY, BC— Simon Fraser University rebounded from a poor shooting performance on Thursday night by scoring a season-high 90 points on Saturday, knocking off Northwest Nazarene University 90-73 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball action in the West Gym.
The Clan now owns a record of 3-3, tied for fourth place in the GNAC with three other teams. NNU Crusaders slipped to 2-4 in conference play.
Overall, the Clan holds 5-6 record while the Crusaders sit at 4-8 overall.
Simon Fraser scored 47 first-half points, almost as many as the team scored in the entire game in a 64-50 loss to Central Washington two nights earlier.
Simon Fraser led 47 to 34 at the half against the Crusaders, partly the result of their 57-percent shooting success rate from beyond the three point line. The Clan drained eight three-pointers in the half.
The Crusaders managed just 25-percent from beyond the arc in the first half.
Led by
Elisa Homer's 12 first quarter points Simon Fraser jumped out to a 26-14 first quarter lead and never looked back. Except for a brief stretch early in the first quarter the Clan held a comfortable lead most of the game.
The Crusaders came with a second half press and chipped away at the lead, getting to within nine points at one point in the third quarter before the Clan pulled away.
Simon Fraser won with a balanced attack, all five starters scoring 10 or more points. Homer led the way with 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting while guard
Alisha Roberts connected on 6 of her 11 field goal attempts for 17 points.
Point guard
Ellen Kett recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists playing 39 minutes.
Freshman
Vanessa Gee had a career-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting while
Rachel Fradgley had 10 points and eight boards.
The Clan out-rebounded the Crusaders 36 to 25 and forced 21 NNU turnovers, while giving up possession of the ball 11 times themselves.
The Crusaders were led by McKenna Walker with 13 points and Kate Cryderman added 12 points and 4 rebounds.
Simon Fraser shot 34-of-59 (58%) from the field and made 9-of-13 (69%) free throw attempts. Northwest Nazarene shot 42.2-percent from the field and made 14 of their 16 attempts from the free throw line.
