SEATTLE, Wash. – Simon Fraser University lost 85-62 to Seattle Pacific University in the final Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season men's basketball game for both teams.
The Falcons (21-7) enter the postseason after finishing in a third-place tie with Alaska Anchorage in the GNAC standings, both with 14-6 records.
The Clan (2-24) completed the season with a 1-19 GNAC record in head coach
Virgil Hill's first season at the helm.
Andrew Williamson paced the Clan with 14 points and senior
Michael Harper, in his final game, had 12.
Oshea Gairey tallied 11 of his 13 points during the first half. Gairey has been a bright spot for the Clan all season as one of the top rookies in the conference. Gairey leads all freshmen in scoring (13.2 ppg), assists (3.1 apg), steals (1.3/game).
SPU shot a sizzling 66 percent (19 of 29) in the second period Saturday to stretch a 44-32 halftime lead to as many as 29 points.
The Falcons broke the game open with an 11-3 spurt immediately after intermission. They nailed 5 of their first 6 shots while limiting SFU to just one basket in its first five possessions.
For the game, SPU posted 55-percent accuracy (37 of 67) helped by producing 62 points in the paint. The Clan shot 43 percent (23 of 53).
Injuries limited Simon Fraser to just seven players for this game.
Mitch Penner poured in 27 points for the Falcons.
