The Simon Fraser Women's Basketball Team is headed out on the road this weekend, facing Northwest Nazarene University on Thursday night (6:30PM), before heading to Central Washington on Saturday in a game slated for 5PM in Ellensburg.
Simon Fraser enters the weekend coming off a 2-0 home stand last week, with wins over both Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's University in the West Gym. Highlighting the home stand was
Tayler Drynan's 24-point, 8 assist performance against Saint Martin's which included a number of clutch three pointers for SFU, helping to seal the game down the stretch.
After their successful weekend, SFU now sits at 10-6 overall and 5-1 in GNAC play.
Jessica Jones leads SFU in points with 18.3 per game, while
Tayler Drynan is averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 assists per contest. SFU has played in a number of close games this season, and has shown the ability to close things out down the stretch, outscoring their opponents by a combined 43 points this season in the 4
th quarter and overtime periods.
Looking at SFU's opponents this week, Northwest Nazarene currently sits at 10-4 overall and 5-1 in GNAC play. Last week, NNU topped the University of Alaska on Thursday, but fell to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night in the northern state. The loss to Anchorage broke NNU's eight-game winning streak. NNU is led by Senior guard Avery Albrecht, who averages 16.9 points per game and 46% shooting from three-point land.
Central Washington is currently 8-6 this season overall and 3-3 in GNAC play. In similar circumstances to NNU, Central split their trip to Alaska, falling to Alaska Anchorage last Thursday, before beating the University of Alaska on Saturday. Central Washington boasts a well-rounded offensive unit, with 5 players averaging double-digits in points, and is also a solid rebounding team, with a rebound margin of +5.8. Before facing SFU Saturday, the Wildcats will host Western Washington on Thursday night.
After the road trip, SFU Women's basketball will be a home for four straight contests.
