Simon Fraser Falls to Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, WA --- Simon Fraser suffered a 7-point loss to Central Washington on Thursday night's game. Simon Fraser's points took a dip after half time, leaving the court with a score of 84 – 77.  

All was looking good for Simon Fraser throughout the majority of the first half.  The team was ahead by 5 after a jumper by Michael Provenzano, and SFU continued to build on their lead, gaining as much as 10-point advantage through 12 minutes of the first half. The lead Simon Fraser gained seemed to be enough to light a fire under Central Washington, as they proceeded to increase their offensive pressure and accuracy. Central Washington finished the half ahead of Simon Fraser by 8 points with a score of 45 – 38.   

Unfortunately, Simon Fraser was unable to bounce back in the second half as Central Washington gave Simon Fraser a run for their money gaining as much as a 21-point lead. Simon Fraser put together a good team effort, closing the point-gap considerably before the buzzer. Despite this, SFU couldn't get things to go their way in the final stages, coming up short by seven points at 84 – 77.  

Jasdeep Singh made waves for Simon Fraser scoring a total of 24 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Othniel Spence also put together a notable performance putting up a total of 17 points, 2 steals and 5 rebounds, while Julian Roche was a beast in the key claiming 8 rebounds and 2 blocks throughout the game.  

Post game, Head Coach Steve Hanson the explained the difference in the matchup from his point of view: "They shot it well, we had too many turnovers and we lost. CWU had an extra 5 possessions because of our turnovers, winning by 7." 

Up next, Simon Fraser will play Northwest Nazarene University on February 1 at 7:00 PM in Nampa Idaho.
