Monmouth, OR --- Simon Fraser was unable to leave Oregon with a second win this week after a 76 – 64 loss to Western Oregon University.
The game leaves Western Oregon at 10-6 in the GNAC, while Simon Fraser falls to 7-9.
Simon Fraser hit the court holding their own at the start of the first half. The team was able to tie with Western Oregon at 10 – 10 before tailing a few baskets behind. Western Oregon pressed hard and out shot Simon Fraser with a 50% accuracy in their three pointers. Simon Fraser suffered a 12.5% accuracy in their threes throughout the first half. The half ended with Western Oregon ahead 11 points at 39 – 28.
Jasdeep Singh opened the second half with a layup to begin to close the point discrepancy. Western Oregon continued to match Simon Fraser in completing their shots. Where Simon Fraser shone was their free throw accuracy in the second half. The team produced a 90.9% accuracy in their free throw shots. Western Oregon's fouling gave Simon Fraser 11 free throws, 10 of which were successful. Towards game's end Simon Fraser began to foul more frequently as they attempted to catch up to Western Oregon. The game ended following 4 free throws from Western Oregon at a score of 76 – 64.
Jasdeep Singh's game was on fire with 18 points and a total of 8 rebounds.
Othniel Spence's play was also excellent with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals throughout the game.
Simon Fraser will return to home court to play Seattle Pacific University on February 20 at 7:00 PM in West Gym.
