BURNABY, B.C. – The Simon Fraser football team fell 51-10 to the Angelo State Rams in a non-conference game Saturday in San Angelo, Texas.

Sophomore
Kristie Elliott kicked a field goal, and junior receiver
Robert Meadors caught a touchdown pass to provide the offence for SFU (1-5).

Junior defensive back
Brendan Lowry intercepted an Angelo State pass at the SFU 35-yard line and returned it to the 48, giving his team the ball with 11:39 left in the second quarter.

On the ensuing possession, Elliott nailed a 30-yard field goal to put the first points on the scoreboard for SFU with 6:31 to go before halftime. The kick cut the team's deficit to 15-3. It capped off an 11-play, 40-yard drive that took up 5:08. The longest play on the drive was a 20-yard connection between sophomore quarterback
Justin Seiber and senior receiver
Dallas Dixon.
SFU trailed 23-3 at halftime.
The team recorded its only touchdown with just under three minutes to go in the third quarter. Meadors caught a tipped ball and ran it into the end zone for the 13-yard score. His second TD catch of the year cut SFU's deficit to 30-10. It was Seiber's eighth TD pass of 2021. SFU's drive covered 75 yards on eight plays.

In addition to Lowry's interception, other defensive highlights included senior linebacker
Griffin Barrett's team-high 11 tackles (five solo and six assisted). Junior defensive back
Kolby Buljevic had nine tackles (three solo) and sophomore linebacker
Drew Nicholson had six (two solo).
Jeremiah Famor, a junior defensive lineman, had a sack. SFU stopped Angelo State on all three of its fourth-down conversion attempts.

Offensively, Seiber completed 15 of 24 passes for 136 yards, and a touchdown. Junior running back
Somto Anyadike rushed 15 times for 44 yards, and sophomore receiver
Riley Morrison led all SFU players with 46 yards on eight catches.
Senior
Kees Metselaar had seven punts for 285 yards. He placed three of his kicks inside the opposition 20-yard line.

SFU's next game will be a GNAC contest next Saturday at Western Oregon. The team will finish out the regular season at Central Washington on Nov. 13.
