After 610 days, SFU loses first game back in its return to the court

BILLINGS, Mont. – SFU Women's Basketball made its long-awaited return to the court but it's going to have to wait a little longer for its first win.

Playing for the first time in 610 days, Simon Fraser lost 58-45 to Nova Southeastern Sharks to start the D2CCA Tip-off Classic at the Trailhead on Friday afternoon.

It was a tightly contested game for three quarters and neither team shot well. Nova Southeastern was also playing for the first time in 600+ games. SFU managed just six fourth quarter points on 3-of-12 shooting and that was the difference. The Sharks went three-of-nine on threes in the fourth quarter to pull way.

SFU managed to hit just 3-of-26 three-pointers in the game.

Georgia Swant led SFU with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in 31 minutes. Gemma Cutler also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting and five boards in 27 minutes.

The teams were tied at 26 at the break and Nova Southeastern led 42-39 after three quarters.  The Sharks extended its lead to 48-41 to start the third and then pushed it to 55-43 before earning the win.
