Emma Lobo earns All-Conference honours as SFU prepares for GNAC semifinal

11/9/2021 3:53:00 PM

PORTLAND, Ore. – Captain Emma Lobo, who earned at least one more game in her senior season by leading SFU into the Great Northwest Athletic Conference post-season playoffs, was chosen by the GNAC coaches as All-Conference Second Team.

Lobo was joined on the team by three other SFU student-athletes selected GNAC All-Conference Honourable Mention: forwards Kiara Buono and Giuliana Zaurrini and defender Jenieva Musico.

Lobo and her teammates are preparing to compete in the GNAC Championship semifinal Thursday against top-seed Seattle Pacific at 4pm in Bellingham. Lobo has appeared in 65 games over her career, playing nearly 5,000 minutes, and establishing herself as the pillar of the SFU defense. In 2019 Lobo was a GNAC All-Conference defender.

Zaurrini, from Burnaby, scored the golden goal that won the final regular season game in double overtime Saturday to lift SFU into the conference championship. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Coquitlam's Buono has been a workhouse this season, starting every game she has played, logging nearly 1,200 minutes and scoring once. Musico, from Surrey, has started 16 of 17 games, playing 1,500 minutes and smothering opposition chances from the backline.

Lobo, Buono and Zaurrini all received All-Conference honours in 2019.

Eleven of the 12 first-team selections announced today by the conference will be participating in the GNAC Championships this weekend in Bellingham, Washington, with the conference's automatic NCAA regionals berth on the line. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at GNACTickets.com
