BURNABY, B.C. – It was a record-setting night for Simon Fraser women's basketball in its first home game since Feb. 25, 2020. The team established several new program bests Friday in a 111-45 non-conference win over the Capilano Blues at the West Gym.
SFU's 111 points were the most in team history, two more than the previous record set in a game against Heidelberg (Ohio) during the 1977-78 season. Friday's margin of victory of 66 points surpassed the squad's 58-point win at Fraser Valley on Nov. 17, 2006.
SFU recorded 31 assists (on 38 made field goals), 21 three-point field goals, and 19 steals, all single-game bests for the program since it joined the NCAA in 2010 (some records in previous years are currently incomplete). Each player had at least a pair of steals on Friday. SFU also had 19 steals against Saint Martin's (Wash.) on Nov. 29, 2012.
It was a true collective effort for SFU Friday. Each one of the eight players dressed saw at least 18 minutes of floor time. A half dozen reached double digits in scoring, led by
Claudia Hart. The senior forward had 21 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and a couple of blocks. Hart hit five triples.
Freshman forward
Gemma Cutler scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Arman Dulai,
Emma Kramer, and
Georgia Swant all contributed 14 points. Dulai, a freshman guard, also had seven assists and five rebounds. Junior guards Kramer and Swant had three steals each, tying for the team lead. Kramer made four of her five shots from behind the three-point line.
Jenna Griffin and Emma Jones led Capilano with nine points and 12 rebounds, respectively.
A short-handed Capilano team opened the game impressively, taking a 7-3 lead with 5:49 to go in the first quarter.

Dulai, newly substituted into the game, made a layup soon after to start a run of 15-consecutive points. She then provided the assist on Kramer's ensuing shot from long distance that gave the SFU the advantage for good at 8-7 halfway through the first period.
Â
The team used another surge, 19-0 bridging the first and second quarters, to build a 31-point gap (39-8). With just seconds to spare, Gardner cast a three-pointer to end the first half with SFU in the lead, 54-20.
Â
The hosts converted 12 of their 24 shots from long distance in the first two quarters.
Â
SFU continued to add to its lead in the second half. Dulai, Hart, and Kramer rotated the ball fast and well enough for
Sophia Wisotzki to count a basket right at the end of the third to put SFU ahead 84-35.
Â
Dulai had six assists in the second half and had a dynamic duo connection with Cutler. The pair coordinated and synced three times with Dulai assisting on Cutler baskets.
Â
For the game, SFU shot 48.1 per cent from the field (39 of 81) and 50 per cent (21 of 42) on three-point attempts. The team out-rebounded Capilano 46-33.
Â
SFU improved to 4-6 with Thursday's win. The team is off until Dec. 30, when it hosts Saint Martin's (Wash.) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at 7 p.m. On New Year's Day, SFU will play Western Oregon at the West Gym.
