BELLINGHAM – Simon Fraser men's soccer lost 2-0 to Western Washington in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday evening at Harrington Field.
The Vikings scored once in each half to earn the victory over the Red Leafs. Each team had 11 shots and two saves. SFU held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
WWU's Andrew Rotter opened the scoring in the 21st minute one-timing a perfectly-placed cross inside the 18-yard box and past SFU goalkeeper
Justyn Sandhu.
Just 14 minutes into the second half, Ryan Rotter scored Western's second goal. Rotter weaved through the SFU defense and took a chance with a shot at the edge of the 18-yard box that tucked inside the left post.
Three weeks remain in the regular season and SFU has five regular season games remaining. The loss dropped SFU to 7-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the GNAC. They sit third in the conference.
The Vikings improve to 10-2-3 overall and 6-2-0 in the GNAC. The Vikings are alone in second place in the conference with 18 points, one behind NNU (6-1-1, 19 points).
Next up for SFU is a game at Seattle Pacific on Saturday (7 p.m.).
