Oludele, Hylton score in double figures in 77-62 loss to Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Freshmen Immanuel Oludele and Nigel Hylton scored in double figures but Simon Fraser fell behind early and couldn't close the gap late in a 77-62 loss to host Colorado Mesa to wrap up the Holiday Inn – Airport Thanksgiving Classic.
 
Simon Fraser is now 3-3 entering conference play at home on Saturday, Dec. 3 with a men's and women's basketball double header against Western Washington. WWU is 5-1 on the season with four wins against West Region opponents. The Vikings are scoring in bunches averaging 93.5 points per game and shooting 51.4 percent for the season.
 
Simon Fraser is scoring at a 77.8 clip and shooting 45.8 percent for the season but in Saturday's contest against Colorado Mesa, currently ranked No. 24 in the D2SIDA Media Poll, they managed just 26 points in the first half and 62 in the game.
 
Oludele was 6-of-12 from the field and 4-of-9 on threes, scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds in 29 minutes. He leads the team in scoring averging 13.3 points per game, having scored more than 15 points in four of six games this season. Hylton scored in double figures for the fifth time this season. The freshman from Thornlea Secondary in Toronto scored 13  points on 5-of-9 field goal shooting, grabbed five rebounds and three steals in 24 minutes. He's second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game.
 
For the second straight game free throws played a crucial role.  The Mavs went 23-for-26 from the line while SFU was 10-of-15.  In two games at the Holiday Inn – Airport Thanksgiving Classic, Simon Fraser shot 14-of-20 on free throws while its opponents made 61 trips to the line, generating 48 points.
 
The Mavericks never trailed, jumping out to a 6-0 lead and had a 39-26 lead at halftime. The Mavs shot 41.4 percent in the game compared to 44.0 percent by the Red Leafs.
 
Colorado Mesa finished with a 43-24 advantage on the glass, including 17 offensive rebounds.
