BURNABY, B.C. – Senior Emily Cue (170 pounds) and sophomore Eleni Fakaosi (143 pounds) went undefeated Sunday to spark the Simon Fraser women's wrestling team at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

The Red Leafs, the sixth-ranked NCAA program, won three of four duals in the desert, posting dominant victories over T-No. 19 Schreiner (Texas) 53-6, Wayland Baptist (Texas) 44-11 and T-No. 19 Tiffin (Ohio) 44-13. The team lost a close 26-19 dual to No. 4 Colorado Mesa.

Cue, the No. 2 170-pound wrestler in the NCAA, won four matches, while Fakaosi earned three.

Cue recorded three of her victories by fall, beating Camryn Tresler (Schreiner) in 21 seconds, Olivia Ricci (Wayland Baptist) in 1:06, and Erin Martin (Tiffin) in 53 seconds. The athlete from Parker, Colorado, was victorious over Melena Jones of Colorado Mesa via technical fall, 10-0. 

Fakaosi, of San Jose, California, pinned Sierra Snodgrass (Schreiner) in 1:14, defeated Tiffin's Paige Lenhardt by technical fall, 12-2, and pinned Erica Schroeder of Colorado Mesa in 2:27.
 

A half-dozen other Red Leafs, all sophomores in terms of eligibility, went 3-1 on Sunday: 
Maddie MacKenzie of Calgary (109 pounds)
Ivy Threatful of Maple Ridge, B.C. (116 pounds)
Victoria Seal of Mission, B.C. (123 pounds)
Jade Trolland of Abbotsford, B.C. (136 pounds)

Every SFU wrestler won their match against Schreiner, with the Texas school's only points coming via a forfeit at 101 pounds. Wayland Baptist managed to take one contest – at 116 pounds – off the Red Leafs. Tiffin got the opening two matches against SFU (101 via forfeit and 109 by fall), but Canada's NCAA team took the next eight. 

The dual against Colorado Mesa was an exciting one. In addition to Fakaosi and Seal, MacKenzie and Threatful defeated their opponents. MacKenzie recorded a 5-3 decision over Isabella Morales, the eighth-ranked 109-pound wrestler in the NCAA. Threatful scored the opening 10 points against Carisa Epling to triumph via technical fall.

Trolland had a good performance in her 136-pound bout against NCAA No. 3 Holly Beaudoin, which ended in a pin at 4:50. No. 4 Osteen dropped a close 4-2 match against No. 3 Jayleen Sekona in the heavyweight division.

SFU next competition will be in McMinnville, Oregon, in 2023. SFU will have duals against Simpson (Calif.) and Linfield (Ore.) on Jan. 7 before the Linfield Mat 'Cat Invitational on Jan. 8.
