Killins scores 5 three-pointers in 8 minutes to lead SFU to victory

NAMPA, ID – Grace Killins didn't play a lot Saturday night but she made the most of her eight minutes, hitting five three-pointers and scoring 15 points to lead SFU to a 96-86 win over Northwest Nazarene in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday in Johnson Sports Center.

These two teams will play against Tuesday in the West Gym, tip-off is 7PM. It's the first of three home games for SFU next week with games also scheduled for February 17 (Alaska Anchorage) and February 19 (Alaska Fairbanks).

Saturday, SFU scored a season-high 92 points to beat the Nighthawks with Killins coming off the bench to go 5-of-7 on three-pointers, grabbing 1 offensive rebound, and 1 steal in eight minutes. She scored a career-high 15 points.

SFU did score 111 points earlier this year in an exhibition win over Capilano College but their previous high against NCAA opponents was 85 points. Saturday their offence was clicking. The team shot 47.5% (28-of-59) from the field and hit eight threes, scoring 27, 24, 17, and 28 points in the quarters.

Georgia Swant (21 points), Jessica Wisotzki (21 points), and Jessica Jones (14 points) combined for 56 points as the trio went a combined 16-of-35 from the field.

NNU shot 29-of-78 from the field (37.2%) and was chasing SFU most of the game. SFU held a double-digit lead midway through the second quarter and held it through the third quarter, leading 51-28 at the half and then pushing its lead to 18 midway through the third.

But in the fourth quarter the home team generated some momentum. NNU cut the lead to seven points with 5:36 left and then to five points with 2:11 to go. But SFU went on a 7-0 run over the next minute to extend the lead back out to 12, 91-79, and held on for the win.

SFU scored 34 points off the bench with Killins netting 15, Gemma Cutler picking up nine and Sophie Klassen scoring six points.

NNU scored 24 points off 23 SFU turnovers.
