SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team (13-1) swept a three-game series with a 10-2 five inning victory over Simon Fraser (3-5) at CSUSM Softball Field on Wednesday.
The Cougars extended their win streak to 12 games with Wednesday's win.
SFU took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by
Chelsea Hotner in the top of the first inning but the Cougars scored five runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. After a scoreless third inning, CSUSM extended its lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Simon Fraser knocked in one run on three hits, scoring on
Chelsea Hotner's two-out single to right to force the bottom of the frame. A two-out RBI-single through the right side by Kayla Mack ended the game at 10-2 due to the eight-run mercy rule.
SFU's starter
Julia Hansen (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits, before leaving the game.
CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (5-1) earned the win after going 5.0 innings, racking up six strikeouts and allowing only two runs on four hits and one walk.
SFU is scheduled to play its home opening double header at Beedie Field on Saturday beginning at noon. SFU will also play Sunday against Saint Martin's at Beedie Field.
