ANCHORAGE, AK --- Only one team in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference has won both games in Alaska this season and Saturday night the Simon Fraser Red Leafs became yet another victim.
Â
After getting a career-high 26-points from
Elliot Dimaculangan in a 78-69 win over Alaska in Fairbanks on Thursday, SFU couldn't over-come a poor shooting first half and lost on the road in Anchorage on Saturday, 68-59, at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Â
Simon Fraser's last Alaska road sweep came on Feb. 21-23, 2019. It is the only time that SFU has swept the trip. There has been one road sweep of the Alaska schools this season in the GNAC and that was by league-leader Montana State Billings on Dec. 1 & 3.
Â
SFU was held to just seven baskets and scored just 18 points first half points against the Seawolves, trailed by 11, 29-18 at the break. That set the stage for an epic comeback that fell just short in the final minutes.
Â
In the second half, SFU raced back into the game. After a 5-0 run, SFU trailed by two, 56-54, with just over three minutes to play. But
David Penney missed a three and
Jimmy Zaborniak had another three-pointer blocked, and suddenly the Red Leafs were down 62-54 with 80 seconds to go, after the Seawolves made field goals and free throws on its possessions.
Â
A pair of free throws by Zaborniak and a three by Dimaculangan completed SFU's scoring, its second lowest point total of the season.
Â
Dimaculangan led three Red Leafs in double figures with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-6 threes.
Jahmal Wright scored 11-points on 5-of-7 shooting while
Immanuel Oludele added 10 points.

AAU shot 45.8 percent from the field, going 22-of-48. SFU shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) in the game. The Red Leafs shot 16-of-28 in the second half and connected on 6-of-27 threes in the game.
Â
AAU held a slight edge in rebounding, 31 to 25, and went 18-of-19 at the free throw line. The Seawolves bench out-scored SFU's bench 23-12.
Â
SFU is now 6-11 overall, and 1-6 in GNAC play. Alaska Achorage is 9-7 overall and 3-4 in the GNAC.
Â
Western Washington was also unable to complete the weekend Alaska sweep, beating the Seawolves on Thursday but losing to Alaska on Saturday, 75-73. WWU and AAU are tied with 3-4 conference records. Three teams in the GNAC have winning records and the other seven teams are playing below .500.
Â
Simon Fraser returns home for games Thursday (Northwest Nazarene, 3-4 GNAC) and Saturday (Central Washington, 2-5 GNAC). Tipoffs are 7:00 p.m.
