BURNABY, B.C. – Two Simon Fraser Red Leafs wrestlers will represent Canada at the Under-20 World Championships, Aug. 14-20 in Amman City, Jordan.
Â
Paige Maher and
Sam Pereira are both coming off medal performances at the U-20 Pan American Wrestling Championships last month. Maher (Port Alberni, B.C.) won silver in the women's 72-kilogram division and Pereira (Winnipeg) earned silver in the men's freestyle 92-kg weight class. The two will be competing in the same events at the World Championships this week.
Â
Maher is entering her redshirt sophomore season with the Red Leafs women's wrestling program. Last season, she won three of her five total matches at the fourth annual National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pereira did not wrestle collegiately after transferring from the University of Alberta.
Â
The first men's freestyle 92-kg matches in Jordan will take place Tuesday while the opening bouts in the women's 72-kg class will be contested on Thursday.
