11/6/2024 2:48:00 PM

On November 2, the Lorne Davies Complex's West Gym became the battleground for the SFU Open, where SFU Wrestling grappled with top universities from across Canada.

The SFU team put on a dominant performance, finishing first in the overall team standings with 118 points, showcasing their strength and determination during their first meet of the season.

The men's side had six wrestlers advance to the finals. Magnus McCrackin, Patrik Leder, Peter McCrackin, and Elijah Lazar all earned first-place finishes, while Arashk Rasti and Owen Gudmundson each secured second-place finishes.

On the women's side, six SFU wrestlers made it to the finals as well. Hana Duus, Paige Maher, and Julia Richey each captured first-place finishes, while Megan Zelasky, Ella Finding, and Lene-Marie McCrackin received second-place honors.

Magnus McCrackin's stellar performance earned him the prestigious Men's Outstanding Wrestler award, adding another highlight to an already strong showing for SFU.

"It was a great weekend of wrestling at SFU," said Associate Coach Clete Hanson. "The Men's and Women's teams approached matches aggressively, which is what we want to see at this point of the season. It's only week one, but we saw some great results and plan to build on this moving forward."
