Head coach
Bruce Langford and the SFU women's basketball team have signed a two-member freshman class of 2026. The Red Leafs will welcome a touted class including Syra Toor and Addison Beck ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Syra Toor, a standout from Delta, BC, joins the Red Leafs after developing her game at Seaquam Secondary and with the AthElite club team. Known for her leadership, Syra is looking forward to embracing the challenges of collegiate basketball.
"I'm super excited to join SFU and be surrounded by amazing players that will challenge me and be coached by a great coaching staff. I know this is a perfect fit for me, and I'm looking forward to the next four years!"
She expressed her gratitude to her family, especially her father, who has also been her high school and club coach, "Thank you for all the hours you've put in with me and for teaching me the game of basketball. I truly wouldn't be here without you."
Syra also acknowledged Coach Aman and her AthElite family, who have supported her every step of the way, "I can't wait for this next chapter of my career! Go Red Leafs!"
Coming from Denver, Colorado, Addison Beck brings her passion to SFU. Having played for Cherry Creek High School and GRIT 17U (Select 40 Circuit), Addison is excited to return to Canada and compete at the collegiate level.Â
"I'm so excited for the opportunity to come home, attend university, and play basketball in Canada. I grew up visiting BC every year to see my grandparents and family, so being able to continue my basketball journey with them close by means so much to me."
Grateful for her family's constant support, Addison also thanked her coaches for pushing her to excel, "This has been my dream for a long time, and I'm so excited to get to work. I can't wait to learn, grow, and compete with my new team. Go Red Leafs!"
"Signing week is always an exciting time. We have signed two very good people: Addy Beck from Colorado and Syra Toor from Seaquam," said Coach Langford. "Both are involved, conscientious citizens in their communities and excellent students. Syra combines an excellent basketball IQ with being one of the best high school shooters in the province. She will fill a very important role for us. Addy is a multi sport, scrapper, combo guard who is a good shooter and combines that with a high defensive competitiveness. Needless to say, they are welcome additions to the program. "
The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team is hitting the road to take on Westmont (Calif.), continuing their season away from home as they gear up for the start of GNAC play. As Canada's only NCAA team, competing in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), the SFU Red Leafs are looking forward to a competitive season.Â
