Simon Fraser University is proud to announce the addition of
Gwendilyn Aasland and
Zoe Sharpe to the 2025 Women's Basketball recruiting class.
Zoe Sharpe
We are excited to announce the addition of Zoe Sharpe to our roster for the 2025 recruiting class. Zoe, a transfer sophomore, joins us from Tusculum University, where she played as a guard for the women's basketball team.
During her freshman season at Tusculum, Zoe made a significant impact on the court, including a standout performance against Catawba on February 1st, where she scored 19 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and added 1 steal and 1 block in 28 minutes of play.
Zoe's basketball journey has been nothing short of impressive, representing Scotland at various youth levels from U14 to U18, as well as playing for Great Britain's U16 and U18 teams. She was a member of the Great Britain U17 3x3 team in 2023 and was selected for the All-Star 5 in the U18 Four Nations Tournament in 2024. In addition, she was honored as the only female basketball representative for the Team Scotland Achieve Program at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
On why she chose SFU, Zoe shared:
"I chose SFU because when I first spoke to the coaches, I instantly connected with them, their approach to basketball, and their love for the game. The location of SFU also really appealed to me as I love the wild outdoors and mountains nearby but also appreciate the vibrancy and buzz of being in a city. Once I'd had a few conversations with existing players and saw the culture that they were building, I knew SFU was the right fit for me. I'm very familiar with the typical weather patterns here as I'm from Scotland – an incredibly beautiful place also with loads of rain!"
Zoe also shared what she will bring to the team:
"I will bring my energy, hard work, and passion every day. I'll be an intense defender, facilitate an aggressive offense, and lead by example both on and off the court."
Head Coach Bruce Langford commented:
"At the point another transfer is Zoe Sharpe, coming from Tusculum in Tennessee. Zoe is also the point guard of Great Britain's U16 and U18 teams, averaging 6.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 20 games across three years. Last year at Tusculum as a rookie, she averaged 7.1 points, shooting 40% from the three, to go along with 3.2 rebounds. She is a tenacious defender who will fit nicely with our plans. Zoe, being from Scotland, was also a member of Scotland's U14, U16, and U18 teams. Her team won the SBC League championship in 2023 and the playoff championship in 2022. We are excited to add some depth and experience to our roster."

Gwendilyn Aasland
We are thrilled to welcome Gwendilyn Aasland to our roster for the 2025 recruiting class. Gwendilyn, a transfer senior, joins us after playing for Cal State East Bay and Bellevue College, where she made a significant impact as a forward.
During her 2024-25 season at Cal State East Bay, Gwendilyn ranked 8th in the CCAA in rebounds per game (RPG) and posted a season-high 20 points on February 20, 2025. Prior to that, she played for Bellevue College, earning a spot on the 2022-23 NWAC North Region 2nd Team and ranking 7th in the NWAC for RPG.
On why she chose SFU, Gwendilyn shared:
"I will bring a strong work ethic, leadership on and off the court, and a team-first mentality. A willingness to grow and learn, and always be a source of positive energy. I chose SFU because of its competitive basketball program and welcoming team culture. The support and friendliness from the staff and the players is truly a blessing."
Head Coach Bruce Langford commented:
"Our late recruiting goal was to address some areas that we have concern about. One area that we need to improve on in 2025 is our rebounding. Gwen Aasland is transferring to us from East Bay Div II. Gwen is a mature, strong, aggressive senior who will come in and improve us immediately at both ends of the floor. Her per 40 rebounding numbers have averaged at 15.8 a game. She is also capable in the low post where she averages 16.4/game. We are excited to add some depth and experience to our roster."
Welcome to the team, Zoe and Gwendilyn!
