Bret Macdonald enters his third season with the Simon Fraser Men’s Basketball Program, where he has been responsible for individual player workouts, scouting reports and recruiting.

Prior to coaching with the Clan, Macdonald was an AAU coach with the 3D Basketball Academy in North Vancouver. After coaching at 3D, Macdonald helped start up the Vancouver Basketball Academy and served as a head coach for the program.

Before Macdonald's coaching career, he was a standout point guard at Terry Fox Secondary in Port Coquitlam where Coach Steve Hanson was on staff. In his grade 12 year, Macdonald led the Ravens to a third-place finish while finishing the tournament as a First Team All-Star. That year, he was ranked as a top-50 player in Canada by North Pole Hoops.

After his high school career, Macdonald went on to play at UBC Okanagan where he averaged 10 ppg as a freshman. After his first year, he transferred to UBC where he played for the Thunderbirds for two years before stepping away from the game due to injuries.
